Description
Looking to create a blend that highlighted the differences between grapes grown in the southern Rhône area surrounding Avignon, and those from the more northern region of Vaison-la-Romaine, Kermit Lynch partnered with Jean-François Pasturel of Terres d’Avignon to create the ‘Cypress Cuvée.’ According to Bruce Neyers, the former Director of National Sales at Kermit Lynch, The term Cypress Cuvée was originally suggested by Daniel Brunier, who remarked that this northern, mountainous area of the Côtes du Rhône was given more to cypress trees than to olive trees. Hence, the birth of a cuvée that offers lovers of Rhône-style reds an accessible alternative at an appealing price point. The Côtes du Rhône Rouge “Cypress Cuvée” consists mostly of Grenache, with Syrah, Carignan, Cinsault, and Mourvèdre included in the mix. Vines average 40 years of age and come from a combination of marl and limestone soils. The resulting wine undergoes natural fermentation and aging in cement tanks before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. -Importer
