The name To Kalon is derived from the Ancient Greek for The Highest Beauty, which certainly describes the vines. First planted in 1868, this 31 acre vineyard is dedicated to world class Cabernet, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Sauvignon Blanc. Nestled right against the Mayacamas in one of the choicest terroirs of the Oakville Bench, wines from To Kalon are jaw droppingly complex with sensuous fruit and a wonderful sense of place. To Kalon is the most densely planted vineyard site in all of California, this forces the vines to compete with each other yielding richer fruit, smaller berries, and lower yields. The famous Monastery Block parcel provided the grapes for the Mondavi 2012 Premiere Napa bottling, itself being the best of the best areas to source from this historic vineyard.
