The Zwettl Monastery was founded in 1074 and in 1171 the Monks of Zwettl were granted their first vineyards: Heiligenstein u0026amp; Gaisberg–the oldest documented sites in the Kamptal. Two hundred years later Eva and Michael Moosbrugger were granted the winemaking and viticultural contract in 1996, and with the help and guidance of Michael’s mentor, Willi Bründlmayer, the winery has regained its prestige and considered to be a leader in quality and innovation. Schloss Gobelsburg maintains a large number of parcels in Erste Lagen, or 1st Growth, vineyards in the Kamptal, including the mineral-rich, crystalline slopes of the Gaisberg and Heiligenstein planted to Riesling, and the deep loess soils of Renner, Grub, and Lamm planted to Grüner Veltliner. The winery continues to utilize organic winegrowing and has benefited from the fact that the monks of Zwettl Monastery began these practices as early as 1958. — Importer

Paul Hobbs Goldrock Pinot Noir 2017

The 2017 Pinot Noir Goldrock Estate is even more impressive from bottle than it was from barrel. Gravel, graphite, smoke, leather, and whole range of dark fruit notes give the Goldrock Estate a decidedly somber feel that pairs well with its brooding structure. A Pinot of gravitas and power, the Goldrock needs time to fully come together, but it is super impressive today.

Paul Lato Seabiscuit Zotovich Vineyards Pinot Noir 2017

As with all Lato’s Pinot Noirs, the 2017 Pinot Noir Seabiscuit Zotovich Vineyard was completely destemmed, and this cuvée was brought up in 60% new French oak, which is on the higher end for Lato. This rich, medium to full-bodied, Burgundian styled effort is another wine that’s going to benefit from short-term cellaring yet offers a brilliant bouquet of black raspberries, ground herbs, earth, and underbrush notes, with just a hint of classic Sta. Rita Hills salinity and minerality. Showing more floral nuances with time in the glass, give bottles 2-3 years in the cellar and it will shine through 2032.

Coelho Winery Paciencia Pinot Noir 2011

Coelho Winery is a small, family owned and operated estate in Willamette Valley. Started in 2004, they are absolutely dedicated to farming and producing excellent wines, with a focus on Pinot Noir. Many other estates buy fruit and many farmers only sell theirs, that’s not the case here as the Coelho family meticulously farms their vineyards to produce fruit of insane quality. This cuvee, Paciencia, comes from their flagship estate vineyard and as the name suggests is meant for longer term aging.

Domaine Andre Roger Grand Cru Vielle Vignes

The base wine for this Old Vines Champagne comes from the Grand Cru vineyards of Pierre Robert Haut» «Tarclette» and «Varmery». The vines are on average 65 years old, which is important for the selection of the plots, as each plant produces a third less than a younger plant. Hence a higher aromatic potential and an optimum maturity at harvest time. The primary aromas are typical of a Pinot Noir from Aÿ: blackcurrant, small red fruit, in the nose and on the palate, with a spicy note at the end of the tasting. These aromas have evolved with the second fermentation, dominated now by juicy fruit, such as white peach and stewed lemon. Despite a lively attack on the palate, this wine feels round, vinous, frank and well structured, long on the mouth without being heavy. This is a great grower Champagne who outperforms many cohorts twice the price.

Domaine Dureuil Janthial Rully ‘en Guesnes’ 2018

The village of Rully (pron: rooh-ee), named after the Gallo-Roman lord Rubilius, lies just 5 miles south of Chassagne-Montrachet – at the northern limit of the Côte Chalonnaise. It is in many ways a continuation of the Cote d’Or, with a south-southeast facing slope made of clay and limestone. The terroir near the top of the slope is a white chalk-laden soil that is markedly different from the reddish clay found at the bottom, mirroring the geological composition of the more famous Côte to the north. If you have heard of the village before, it is very likely due to the brilliant work of one Vincent Dureuil of Domaine Dureuil-Janthial. -Importer
